All my books are novels for adults with romance as their primary theme but exploring other aspects of life from history to fantasy with people sometimes caught in dangerous situations who must find their way to a safe landing. Some are connected books, with continuing characters-- where a secondary character might show up in a new book as a hero/heroine. Each book stands alone with no cliff hangers.

Because mine vary for the 'heat' level, I devised this chart. If you find a book that interests you, look for the hearts. Some books with strong language or mild profanity.

♥ ------holding hands, perhaps a gentle kiss
♥♥ ---- more kisses but no tongue-- no foreplay
♥♥♥ ---kissing, tongue, caressing, foreplay & pillow talk
♥♥♥♥ --all of above, full sexual experience including climax
♥♥♥♥♥ -all of above including coarser language and sex more frequent

The essence of the romance novel

There is a lot to a romance novel, but I think the essence is always a relationship between two people who fall in love and want to/or don't want to make it work. The stories usually involve a barrier between the lovers.

The barrier can be of their own making as with the famous Pride and Prejudice or something real like Jane Eyre. One way or the other, the lovers won't find it easy and sometimes, rarely as with Gone with the Wind, it does end without the happily ever after, but that's a rarity and frankly-- was it really over between Rhett and Scarlett?

For my own favorite romances, there is one character who is mythic. That person is bigger than life while the other plays the part of the rest of us. The real person is sucked into the drama through a gatekeeper experience. Something comes along to turn them from their average path-- and that something might be meeting that mythic person.

There certainly are romances where both seem like average people; but right now I cannot think of one. Even the ones that might seem that way, like say Bridges of Madison County, the photographer, who has been an adventurer, comes into an average woman's life and nearly turns it upside down until she realizes the cost she'd pay to go running off with him-- and practically speaking.
